Alf Whitby
From Monday 19th August onwards, our artist of the week on Tameside Radio's Local Music Spotlight feature is Alf Whitby. With his sad pop songs Alf brings shape shifting sounds to soothe the soul and settle the mind of his fans. His songs are a cathartic release of honesty, taking head on the subjects which he feels listeners to his music often hold close.
His music is centered around piano and guitar, and his songs drift and wander, meandering through the mind of an artist in his twenties 'grappling to figure things out' as he himself describes. Influenced by the likes of Bon Iver, Laura Marling and Big Thief, Alf Whitby started out on the Manchester music scene eight years ago and has developed an intricate sound with the help of his five-piece band and has honed his stage craft by playing at most of the small to medium sized venues the city has to offer.
He's no stranger to releasing music and has featured on many local and national radio stations with songs from his album 'Sistine Dreams' alongside his singles and EP, and is looking to continue this trend with a string of singles to be released this year, along with a mini tour towards the end of 2024.
Alf Whitby can be found on all usual social media platforms, and at www.alfwhitby.com, and his music will be played on every daytime show on Tameside Radio from 6am on Monday 19th August. He also joined the team on The Dave Sweetmore Show on Monday 12th August, you can listen again via the OnDemand section of the website.
