GMP: Rise In QR Code Fraud

A police force has warned people to be aware of QR code fraud after seeing an increase in the crime in its area.

Greater Manchester Police said there had been a "steep rise" in the use of the barcodes, which offer mobile phone users a quick way of accessing a website, since the pandemic and criminals were using them as a "new way to defraud people".

It said it had recorded three uses of fake QR codes in the last week alone.

A force representative said the fraud was "more likely to happen in open spaces, such as car parks or parking meters" and warned people to be careful when using them.

Mobile phones Banned in Manx Schools

Mobile phone use is set to be banned in all Manx primary and secondary schools after the summer holidays, the education minister has confirmed.

It comes as St Ninian's High School in Douglas has confirmed students will be expected to turn phones off and put them away before arriving each day from September.

CrowdStrike Facing Fresh Backlash

CrowdStrike is facing fresh backlash after giving staff and firms they work with a $10 UberEats voucher to say sorry for a global IT outage that caused chaos across airlines, banks and hospitals last week.

The cybersecurity company - whose software update on Friday affected 8.5 million computers worldwide - said in an email to its partners that it recognised the incident had caused extra work.
