Alan Ovington's Album Review - 24 October 2024

With three strong studio releases, a nationwide tour with King King, and a main stage appearance at Ramblin’ Man Festival, Austin Gold are building a reputation as one of the best live acts around.

Glowing reviews of their debut ‘Before Dark Clouds‘, their self-titled second release, and 'Those City Lights', have catapulted the English quartet into the limelight.

The band consisting of David James Smith (vocals & guitar), Lee Churchill (bass), Adam Leon (keyboards) and James Pepper (drums) return next month with a new album called 'Ain't No Saint'.

Austin Gold's melting pot of influences come together to create something that is really very special. From heavy guitar riffs to the most delicate heart-felt ballads, from atmospheric sonic landscapes to hook-driven melodies, this is a band that deserves to be heard.

David James Smith says, "The new album reflects a transformative period marked by personal challenges for me particularly. You’ll find that each track is a heartfelt expression, a diary entry in you will, capturing moments of struggle and triumph. Its some of my most personal work to date."

The album's lead single, 'The Wire Defines' captures the universal experience of feeling trapped in the daily grind. The song evokes nostalgia for simpler times, contrasting them with the frustrations of modern life. Yet, amidst the yearning for the past, it song offers a glimmer of hope, suggesting that we can break free from the chains that bind us and find solace in memories as well as discovering the strength to change our present.
