Derbyshire County Council are offering High Peak farmers £250 to help clear snow from rural roads this winter.
While the council grits most main roads in wintry weather, smaller lanes can become impassable if they remain untreated, and DCC needs the help of farmers and contractors with their own ploughing or gritting equipment.
Applications are open until September 16, with regular working times being daylight hours between the start of October and the end of April.
Everybody accepted onto the scheme will receive a flat fee of £250 and another payment for each time they are pressed into action.
“We'd like you to help us remove snow from our roads during ‘snow events’ and provide the service within 90 minutes of a call-out,” said a statement from DCC.
“We'll let you know which roads we'd like you to clear, and we'll pay you for any work you carry out. Your contribution could really help your local community.
“To find out more about the scheme, or if you'd like to apply to join it, email: placecountyprocurement@derbyshire.gov.uk or tel: 01629 532588.
“We’ll send you an application form so you can let us know about the type of equipment you have, insurance details, your hourly rate of payment, and how quickly you could respond to requests for help.
“Your details will be compared with any other quotations we receive based on your insurance, equipment, hire rates, availability, location, the minimum amount of time you'd be prepared to work and how quickly you could respond to calls for help.
“The closing date for applications is 5pm on Monday 16 September 2024.
“We'll contact you at the end of September to let you know if your application has been successful.”
