A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was stabbed in the street.
The woman, in her 40s, was attacked yesterday at 4pm At around 4pm at the junction Church Street and Hope Street in Dukinfield.
Following urgent treatment at hospital, she is recovering and remains in a stable condition.
This morning at around 10:30am Greater Manchester Police (GMP) with the help of British Transport Police and the Force Critical Wanted Unit, arrested a 51-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder at Manchester Piccadilly train station and he was brought into custody for questioning.
Det InspLisa Devitt said; “We understand the shock this information and incident will cause both in Tameside and further afield, but we are confident this was a targeted attack from a person known to the victim, and there is no threat to residents of Tameside or the wider community.
“GMP remain focused and committed to tackling incidents of violence, assuring the safeguarding of victims remain a priority and that action is quickly taken against those who commit such offences.
“Our patrols will remain in place whilst we progress this investigation and provide additional support to those affected, but we have been working tirelessly overnight using all our available resource to track, trace and detain a suspect in relation to this shocking incident.”
