Mossley arts centre celebrates its third birthday in style

A Mossley arts centre made a big splash as it turned three with a water-themed family fun day.

Celebrations at The Vale started early in the morning with a gong bath to wash away the stresses of the week.

Then throughout the day, local families were treated to a number of fun, free interactive sessions, including music, dance, storytelling and arts and crafts activities.

A beginners' drumming workshop shared Afro-Brazilian rhythms inspired by the purity of water, whilst younger children were encouraged to find their sea legs as they learned to dance like a pirate to sea shanties.

Keen crafters tried their hands at making a water carrying vessel on a potter's wheel and fashioned their own river goddess inspired headdresses.

There was a popular seed and plant swap in The Vale's Our Space community garden. And visitors learned about the arts centre's ambitious  plan to harness hydroelectric power via a homemade micro hydro generator, situated in a culvert next to the building.

Finally, slow coaches the Glowing Gastropods, four Giant African land snails and their riders, were in no hurry to put in an appearance. But eventually, they agreed to come out of their shells and say hello.
