Partridge named new Hyde CC captain after Cranmer stands aside

Hyde Cricket Club have named Tom Partridge as their new captain after Danny Cranmer chose to step down following a season of agonising near misses.

The Werneth Low side looked set for a first Cheshire League title since 2015 before the weather intervened on the final day of the campaign.

Rain forced an abandonment of Hyde’s match at Grappenhall, but closest rivals Nantwich played on to snatch the title by a single point.

A late batting surge from Didsbury also saw Hyde finish as runners-up in the Cheshire Cup the following week.

Partridge has captained Hyde before, leading them for the two years immediately before Cranmer took over, including lifting the Cheshire Cup when they beat Chester in the 2019 final.

He had an excellent season at the crease in 2024, too, notching two centuries – including a personal best 169 runs against Widnes – in an effective opening partnership with Luke Young.

“It goes without saying the club would like to thank Cranners for all his considerable efforts, and wish him luck next season,” said a statement from the club.

“Everyone at the Club will get behind Tom, who we are sure will make a great captain and continue the progress of the last few seasons.”
