Potential cannabis farm inside a business unit in Ashton

This Friday morning, officers from Neighbourhood policing team, DTT and DIU executed a warrant on an address in Ashton, following numerous intelligence reports about a potential cannabis farm inside a business unit.

Upon entering the address Officers discovered a large scale cannabis farm and living quarters.

One male has been arrested for production of cannabis.

Not only was there a cannabis farm in the property but electricity was also being abstracted to source this cannabis farms lighting. This poses a huge risk to the property, occupants and neighbouring properties/occupants.

Another thing the police say they consider is when uncovering a cannabis farm is the potential that the occupants of the address are part of Modern Day Slavery, often these people are locked into these properties looking after these plants against their human rights - the owners are 'giving them a place to stay and delivering food to them'.

GMP added: "We assure you this is one of our main priorities when we receive intelligence of cannabis farming.

We urge anyone who suspects their neighbours, friends, or family are growing cannabis, abstracting electricity or are involved in the wider drug supply to our communities - to contact your local neighbourhood team as soon as possible so we can make these properties/persons safe."
