High Peak Green New Deal Co-ordinator Linda Walker took part in a special Westminster event demanding warm homes for all.
Activists from Friends of the Earth groups across the country brought their handmade scarves and gathered in Parliament Square, around a scarf-covered giant 55 per cent.
This is the percentage of homes in England and Wales which are poorly-insulated and at risk of being too cold in winter, particularly while energy bills remain extortionately high.
There are more than 24,000 homes in the High Peak which come into this category.
The High Peak scarf carried messages such as 'Retrofit Now' 'Insulate our Homes' and 'Cold Homes Kill' from many local community groups across the constituency and from churches and businesses in Glossop.
Many MPs came out to join their constituents and discuss the need for the Government to come up with a much stronger Warm Homes plan. Jon Pearce was invited but did not attend.
“It’s been nearly three years since energy prices first sky-rocketed, and bills are still eye-wateringly high." said Linda Walker "We simply can’t afford to accept this as the new normal when people are feeling the impacts of the cost of living crisis in every area of their lives.
We need the Government to go much further and faster on what it’s already pledged towards rolling out a national programme of insulation, and to make sure that those who need it most are targeted first for support.
"That’s why we’ve been pushing Jon Pearce to back our cause, and help us secure a national Warm Homes Plan which will be good for the planet and for struggling families here in Glossop and throughout the country"
