The bookshop where you don't have to pay a penny

Get Free Books is a charity located within the Clarendon Square Shopping Centre in Hyde.

Its mission is to promote reading and literacy for both children and adults by providing free access to books. The organisation operates by seeking out vacant retail spaces in shopping centres, where they display books for the public to take at no cost.

In addition to individual book giveaways, Get Free Books supplies bulk quantities of books to care homes, hospitals, and prisons. This year, they are also contributing a selection of 'as new' books to the Tameside Toy Appeal.

Having been in operation for five years, the charity initially opened just a few hours each week but has recently expanded its hours. They are now open six days a week: Monday to Friday from 10:30am to 4pm and Saturday from 10am to 1pm

Visitors can explore a wide range of books available for free, with a limit of three books per person. On average, the charity gives away around 5,000 books each month while receiving approximately 7,000 donations.

As a charitable organisation, Get Free Books welcomes donations at their counter to support their ongoing efforts.
