Twin sisters from Glossop are staying focused on the written word after each winning three months of books thanks to a local opticians.
Six-year-old book loving twins, Violet and Willow scooped the prize after having their eyes tested at Specsavers in High Street West and entering a free prize draw.
In a bid to raise awareness of the importance of good vision to children’s education, Specsavers ran a competition to win two, three month book subscriptions in conjunction with Dark Peak Books & Gifts, which will see Violet and Willow receive books every month.
Specsavers Glossop store director Nawaz Moin said: "It was a treat for us all to meet Violet and Willow when they popped in for their routine eye tests and to see their faces when they realised they’d won our raffle.
"It’s clear that they love books and we hope that this competition has helped reinforce how reading for fun is so important. Not only does it improve literacy, vocabulary and communication skills, it can ignite creativity and stimulate imagination."
Violet and Willow’s mum, Fern said: "The girls were delighted with their prize. They’re both avid readers, some of their favourite books include the Little People, Big Dreams biography series. I know they’ll relish receiving new books each month, it’s a great way to keep them enthused about the pleasures of reading."
Paul Hodgson, Specsavers Glossop optical director added: "To look after your child’s vision and ensure they can continue reading comfortably, it is recommended that they have an eye examination at least once every two years, or more often if advised by their optometrist."
All children under 16, as well as those under 19 in full-time education, are entitled to an NHS-funded eye test every two years, or sooner if recommended by an optician, and a voucher towards the cost of glasses.
