Now Playing Little Man Tate Undercover Lovers

Dave Sweetmore - 19th September

When we started our Local music Spotlight feature on Tameside Radio and across the Not Really Here Group media outlets back in January 2023, I knew what an important feature it would be for local bands and artists, but I don't think anybody could have predicted just how successful it has been.

Almost 90 bands and artists have now featured, and with acts lined up until early next year, there is no sign of it slowing down anytime soon. Next Friday, September 27th, we will be hosting our third 'Local Music Spotlight' Live night, combined with my 'Indie Rock n Roll Live' night at the brilliant Whittles at Tokyo Live Music Venue in Oldham. The night will run with live bands from 7pm until around midnight, with a club night until the early hours of the morning.

Playing live will be Inego, who are one of Manchester's best loved live bands. Joining them will be Atlas, a relatively new band who with a rapidly growing fanbase have recently entered two battle of the band competetions, and won them both with ease. They went on to receive a full day in a recording studio, and have also supported Ocean Colour Scene, Heather Small and The Lottery Winners. Jacob Reddy will be playing live, his first Greater Manchester gig since his first class performance at this year's After All Festival, along with local heroes The DDE's who have played limited gigs recently but will be making a special appearance at our night.

The brilliant Bohmen recently sold out Manchester's Deaf Institute venue and will be joining the line up next week, along with Long Island, who were an unbelievably popular band of the week on Local Music Spotlight. In June this year, our feature had its first dance music producer as an artist of the week, Rick Holden. Rick's music is first class and he will also be joining us on the night, playing a rare DJ set containing his music. Tameside Radio's Laura Beth will also be doing a DJ set on the night, and i will be there to host and DJ the remainder of the night.

The night will be recorded with sections played out on Tameside Radio at a later date, along with interviews with the bands, DJs, and music fans in the crowd. Its another amazing line up, and i really hope you can join us, support the night, support the artists, and enjoy a great night of live, real music with us. Tickets for next Friday's 'Indie Rock n Roll Local Music Spotlight Live' night are only £8 each advance and available from the Whittles Oldham website via the gig listings, or the Tameside Radio website by clicking the link on the home screen. Hope you can join us for another amazing line up of great music and bands!

During Spring, I worked on a huge UK tour with legendary British singer Paul Young. The tour was a theatre tour, with Paul telling some of his life stories in intimate settings, stories from a remarkable career which has lasted over forty years, as one of the UK’s biggest and most loved singer songwriters.

Last week was a sad week for the music world. First of all on June 9th, the news broke that Funk and Soul legend Sly Stone had passed away at the age of 82, followed by the news two days later thatthe Beach Boys’ icon Brian Wilson had also died, also aged 82.
