Back in February 2023, our fifth band to be featured on Tameside Radio's 'Local Music Spotlight' feature were The Shed Project. Formed in Bolton in 2019, the band were ready to take on the music world with their own modern style of the classic Manchester sound made famous in the early 1990's.
But when the Covid pandemic took hold in March 2020, and live music events were stopped, the band decided to use their time to further grow an already quickly growing fanbase, using the power of social media. They worked harder than most bands, and released several singles, which remain fan favourites, such as 'One Shot', which was later remixed to feature legendary Manchester rapper and DJ MC Tunes, 'Lucky Number', and 'Feel My Love'. By 2021, singles continued coming, and as live music returned, The Shed Project quickly found themselves selling out many iconic venues, the first being Boltons legendary Phoenix Club, made famous in Peter Kay's Pheonix Nights, and then went on to sell out Manchester Academy 3 with ease. Around the same time they also released their long-awaited debut album, 'The Curious Mind Of A Common Man', which went on to receive rave reviews and much praise.
The band then went onto play in many iconic venues in cities such as Glasgow, Birmingham, and London, with the aim of spreading the band's name the full length of the UK, which they did and were joined on many dates by MC Tunes. They then went on to release a single called 'If You're Getting Busy (You're Getting Better)', in which all money raised was donated to mental health and addiction charity 'Whysup'. This single then featured on the bands follow up album 'Our Fear Is Their Power' which was released last year.
The Shed Project over the last few years have been one of the most loved, and hardest working bands around, and it came as a huge shock and surprise when they recently announced that sadly after fours years of amazing highs, the band would be coming to an end, after taking it as far as they felt they could. A farewell show has been announced which will take place on Saturday 29th June at The Venue Bar in Bolton, with support from Jace Campbell.
Tickets for what will be a memorable night are available from Skiddle. Who knows what the future holds for each member of the band, but when the day comes a book is wrote about Greater Manchester's music scene of this current time, The Shed Project will definitely be a part of it. On behalf of myself, and all new music fans, thank you to The Shed Project for an amazing few years of hard work, amazing tunes, and being such big part of the Northern music scene. All the best to Roy, Tim, John, Shane and Tim for the future, the music you have given to us will always be around.
