Hyde Little Theatre's 'intimate' stage plays host to only its second ever performance
The HLT team bring the amateur production of ‘Dirty Dusting’ to Studio 9 this week.
The production follows the group’s very first production at the venue last September of Mrs Lowry and Son which was wonderfully received and highly acclaimed.
The plays couldn’t be any more different however, with ‘Dirty Dusting’ adult-only but highly entertaining farcical fare from the pens of Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood.
The action follows three vintage cleaners of senior years, Olive (Catherine Connelly), Gladys (Sue Stagg) and Elsie (Stephanie Morris) suddenly threatened with redundancy.
Convinced they still have more to give, a chance wrong number at the office provides them with a new business plan and novel way of polishing up their pensions, that of running their own sex chat line service.
The trio prepare to put their life experience to the test, clean-up and cash in. But of course, nobody must ever know, least of all the grand kids!
The puns come thick and fast in this high-paced, rude, crude but laugh-out-loud, heart-warming comedy, which certainly provides a unique take on the topic of ageism.
‘Dirty Dusting’ premiered in 2003 and hasn’t stopped since, with professional tours across the country, Europe and even down under in Australia and New Zealand, playing to packed and appreciative audiences.
Hyde Little Theatre’s production, under the direction of Norma Raif, promises a highly accomplished and experienced cast, including Andrew Connelly appearing as the cleaning girls’ manager.
Andy Gelsthorpe (sound), Andy Cavanagh (lighting) and Josie Kirby (production manager) complete the team.
If you’re easily offended, then a night at the bingo might beckon. But if you love a good old fashioned laugh, then leave ‘Dirty Diana’ at the door, settle back and let outrageous Olive, gratuitous Grace and explicit Elsie entertain you.
The Dirty Dusting girls are wiping the floor and more at Studio 9 this week until Saturday, June 29. Performances are nightly at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
You can find Studio 9 at 314 Market Street, Hyde.
Tickets are £11 and available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/hydelittletheatre or see the Hyde Little Theatre Facebook page.
