Singer Iona Lane set to play New Mills gig

Singer/ songwriter Iona Lane is embarking on a UK tour. She is paying a visit to the Spring Bank Arts Centre in New Mills on Friday 28 May for a live gig.

Born in the Yorkshire Dales, Iona now lives in Glasgow where she writes music. She told us about the creative process, ”I take a lot of inspiration from different landscapes, places that I’ve visited and how humans are linked into those landscapes … I’m pretty into going outdoors, when I’m out in the hills and I find a cool story about the place where I’ve been, that inspires me to write a song. There’s escapism in it for me.”

Her enchanting voice is influenced by the likes of Jeff Buckley, Rachel Semani and John Martyn.

Echoing sounds of traditional folk music, Iona still manages to bring a new and organic sound to the music world as she sings softly which provides a feeling of tranquillity. However, at the same time, she still manages to sound as powerful as the women she mentions in her songs like 'Mary Anning' and 'The Poet and The Painter'.

On the evening on Friday 28 May, Iona will be joined with musician Malin Lewis at the Spring Bank Arts Centre in New Mills. More information can be found at https://www.wegottickets.com/event/575905?fbclid=IwAR0rWcTLN2YmxXP3V6xpvsw_frXizdIwMj8-z5SzLY6vIh0Cg7sISSVOZAA.
