3rd Glossop scout group seeks new leaders

3rd Glossop scout group need new leaders so they can reopen their Explorer Scouts section.

Explorer Scouts is for older children and young people.

Explorers enables 14–18-year-olds to learn life skills and make new friends within their community.

They do activities like hiking, caving, navigation and helping out in the community. Explorers can also get their Duke of Edinburgh awards and Chief and Queen’s Scout awards.

The group is based in Old Glossop, where there is also a cub and scout section for younger members.

Due to a shortage of leaders, the explorer section closed three years ago and existing explorers moved to a different group.

Now there are too many young people wanting to join Third Glossop to continue this arrangement.

Explorers take an active part in deciding which activities to do, and the leader is there to help with this.

Leaders come from all walks of life, some are former scouts, some have never been involved in the movement.

One of the scouts who recently moved to explorers said: “Being in cubs and scouts has helped to improve my confidence and my skills; I am excited to move onto the next stage of my journey as a member of the scouting community.”

Anyone interested in becoming an explorer leader, or cub or scout leader should contact adie.hopkinson@glossopdistrictscouts.org.uk
