A new community centre in Chinley is a step closer

Plans to create a purpose-built community centre in Chinley are a step closer after planning permission was granted for the scheme.

The Parish Council and Community Association, who have been working on the project for some time, have expressed their delight that they have secured permission.

Under the proposals, the existing well-used but dilapidated community centre on Lower Lane will be demolished and replaced with a new facility in the same location.

The plans for the new centre include a main hall, social space, multi-purpose room, kitchen, library and changing facilities.

The proposals also include an external terrace and associated external landscaping, car park extension and resurfacing.

The application resulted in one letter of objection being submitted along with 31 letters of support. An open day and survey by Parish Council resulted in a further 240 mainly positive responses.

Funding of £28,000 was awarded by the National Lottery Community Fund to pay for the architect and surveys needed to design the new building and submit plans.
