If you enjoy being scared on Halloween then Hadfield is the place to be.
The owner of Dandelion Craft in Glossop, Helen Morris, is transforming her garden into the story of Doctor Weinerschnitzel who is trying to re-animate a corpse.
The Doctor and his assistant Igor were both killed in an unfortunate trouser explosion!
Entry is free, but visitors are encouraged to donate to the Bone Cancer Research Trust.
Last year Helen turned her garden into a ghostly spectacle so people could still enjoy Halloween, but observe social distancing.
It was a success, so she’s decided to do it again this year.
Helen said: “Last year we raised around £100 for the Bone Cancer Research Trust. I enjoyed it so much we’ve decided this year to feature the story of Doctor Weinerschnitzel and his Haunted Laboratory.
“As people arrive they’ll be directed on a route around the garden which will feature five areas – a cemetery, a witches’ coven, a website, a pumpkin patch and then the finale of the Haunted Laboratory. It will be scary, but not terrifying. The idea is that it should be fun for both children and adults.
“With my previous job I travelled a lot to the US and was blown away by the way Americans celebrate Halloween, so I was determined to bring some of the fun back home with me.”
Helen and her husband have made a lot of the props themselves and each will take a turn at playing the mad Doctor when the garden is open to the public.
Helen added: “There is a lot more scope for research into bone cancer. A friend of ours, Pete Lloyd, suffered from cancer of the femur. He chose to have his leg amputated and now takes part in wheelchair racing. He is a real inspiration.”
You can visit Dr Weinerschnitzel’s Haunted Laboratory on October 29-30 between 6.30-9.30pm, at 1 The Sycamores in Hadfield, SK13 2BS.
