Appeal for more mature members

Glossop RVS (Royal Voluntary Service) wants more 'mature' Glossopdale people to join them for their fortnightly get-togethers.

Pauline Booth, who organised the latest Christmas lunch, is promising that a good time is guaranteed.

Now Christmas is over, she’s stressing that the club is there all year round, promising good food and fellowship for older members of the community. 

She said: “We had 36 people sitting down to a four course meal at Dinting Scout Hut and they all had a very good time.

“We get an average of 32 at our first and second Wednesday in the month lunches at Dinting, but we would like over 40.

“They are always friendly get-togethers, people meet socially, it gets them out.”

But how does Pauline define the qualifying age of ‘mature’?

“It’s over 50s, people who may have retired.”

The club is run with the help of a grant, by volunteers and help is always welcome.

There is a particular need for volunteer drivers, car owners who can pick up people who would otherwise struggle to make it to the Adderley Place Scout HQ.

Pauline said: “Several of the people who attend are grateful for transport to and from the Wednesday gatherings, so if you could spare the time to assist with your transport it would be very much appreciated.

As for the Christmas lunch, it also included carols from Dinting Junior School Choir.

Everyone went home with handfuls of presents from the Glossop RVS, the Scouts and special parcels from Asda.
