High Peak charity Zink is helping young people get a start on the career ladder thanks to support from local businesses.
Pig and Pepper Bakery, in Buxton, has become the latest to join with Zink to offer Kickstart vacancies.
Paul Bohan, CEO at Zink, said: “We were pleased that The Pig and Pepper offered to support young people in the community by offering this opportunity to work in an artisan bakery.”
Kickstart is a government scheme that aims to reduce youth unemployment caused by Covid-19.
Employers who join the scheme are expected to support kickstarters to acquire skills that will help them to develop a career.
The Pig and Pepper Bakery have employed Rhian who will also be receiving employability support from one of Zink’s work coaches.
The bakery’s co-owner Aaron Cheatle said: “So far I believe we've been incredibly lucky to get someone like Rhian, who is a very hard worker, she fits in well with the team and it’s now a case of seeing what we can do with her ongoing development.”
Zink is administering the Kickstart scheme in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales and has seen 42 placements created for young people for far.
The charity has its own vacancies in in administration and promotions so anyone aged 18 to 24 who is interested should speak to their job centre work coach for more details.
The kickstart scheme is due to end next year.
