Auction at Glossop pub to boost defibrillator fundraising

An auction to raise funds to buy more defibrillators for Glossop is taking place on Saturday (2 October).

Generous businesses in the town have donated many lots that will be going under the hammer from 7pm at The Queens Arms pub in Old Glossop.

The Apprentice star and Glossop resident Adam Corbally will be the auction-master and prizes up for grabs include Manchester United tickets, a Supercar Track Day experience, meals at a range of local restaurants, health and beauty treatments and much, much more.

There’s also musical entertainment in the shape of local favourites Decoy, who will be playing a set of 1980s and 90s hits.

Tony Doyle, who is leading the Glossop Heart Starters fundraising campaign, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of local people and businesses who have supported our fundraising so far.

“Our aim is to fund at least eight defibrillators in locations across Glossop and help to save lives. We’re working with the North West Ambulance Service to make sure the new defibrillators are in places where they are most needed.”

All funds raised up to £3,000 will be matched pound-for-pound by Councillor Damien Greenhalgh.

Tickets for the event on Saturday are £5 on the door, which include entry into a draw to win an Amazon Fire 7 tablet and things kick off at 7pm.

If you can’t come but would like to make a donation, you can do so at: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/glossop-heart-starters.

According to the British Heart Foundation, 33,000 people in the UK suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest each year and without CPR only one in 10 people will survive.
