Be aware of scam calls claiming to be from council

Residents are being warned to be aware of scam calls claiming to be from High Peak Borough Council.

Glossopdale councillor Bob Mckeown says people have reported receiving calls from someone purporting to be from the council.

During the calls, the scammer asks for the person's bank details, citing that they are 'due a refund on their Council Tax bill'.

People are being told to put the phone down immediately should they receive such a call and to report it to Glossop Police Safer Neighbourhood Team - either by calling 101 or online at https://www.derbyshire.police.uk
