Breaking Barriers: A Journey into Journalism and a Celebration of Women

Growing up, I dreamed of becoming a journalist. I imagined chasing stories, uncovering truths, and giving a voice to the people in my community.

Following a Childhood Dream

Growing up, I dreamed of becoming a journalist. I imagined chasing stories, uncovering truths, and giving a voice to the people in my community. But, like many women, my career took a different path. Life’s responsibilities, opportunities, and unexpected turns meant that while I wasn’t working in newsrooms, I was still telling stories - just in different ways.

From working in charities, the NHS and running my own business, every role I had involved writing, communicating, and making an impact. The passion never left me, and though my journey wasn’t conventional, it ultimately brought me to where I always wanted to be - writing for the Glossop Chronicle, the newspaper I grew up reading.

Finding My Way Back to Journalism

For years, I was a loyal reader of this paper, eagerly waiting for it to hit the shelves each week. In an era before the internet made news instantly available, the Glossop Chronicle was our connection to what was happening in our town. It was more than just a newspaper - it was part of the fabric of the community.

Now, I find myself on the other side of the pages, telling the stories that matter, meeting the people who shape our town, and playing a part in continuing this publication’s legacy. It’s a surreal and proud moment, but more than that, it’s proof that sometimes, dreams don’t have deadlines.

What International Women’s Day Means to Me

International Women’s Day is a celebration of achievements, but it’s also a day to reflect on the opportunities we create - for ourselves and for others.

For many women, careers don’t follow a straight line. We take detours, face challenges, and sometimes put our own ambitions on hold. We juggle family, responsibilities, and self-doubt. But one thing remains true - passion and purpose don’t fade, and it’s never too late to take a leap towards what we truly want.

For me, this role at Not Really Here Media is more than just a job. It’s an opportunity to serve my community, to bring stories to life, and to make a difference through the power of journalism.

A Message to Women Everywhere

To the women breaking barriers, starting new careers, launching businesses, or stepping into roles they never thought possible - I see you, and I celebrate you.

To those who feel stuck, who think it’s too late, or who doubt their ability - know this: your story is still being written. You have the power to shape your future, to take that first step, and to pursue what truly makes you come alive.

Today, on International Women’s Day, let’s celebrate not just the successes but also the courage it takes to keep going. Let’s uplift, support, and inspire each other - not just today, but every day. Because when women are given opportunities, we don’t just change our own lives - we change the world around us.

Happy International Women’s Day
