Police have told sightseers to ‘find an alternative place to visit’ after double-parked cars forced them into closing the road for the day.

The whole of Winnats Pass is a ‘clearway’, which means cars can't park on it unless there is an emergency,

The current situation means access is difficult for gritters and emergency vehicles.

“If you can’t find a space where you first intended to visit then don’t simply dump your car,” said a spokesperson for Derbyshire Constabulary. “Your selfish actions could be difference between someone receiving lifesaving care or not.

“Those cars parked poorly will be receiving a fine – and those parked dangerously will be towed.

“Parking like this isn’t just an inconvenience, it blocks the way of ambulances and fire engines responding to potentially life and death emergencies.

“So, if you were intending to travel to Winnats Pass today then you will need find an alternative place to visit and, when you do, please park appropriately.”

Twenty-one drivers were issued with a Notice of Intended Prosecution after a similar situation on Saturday morning
