Water tankers have been dotted around Glossop as workers raced to fix a burst water main that has left much of the town without water for more than 24 hours.
The issues began at lunchtime on Monday September 9 when a pipe ruptured on High Street West, cutting supply to homes and businesses in the area.
Engineers from United Utilities (UU) worked through the night to repair the leak, but had to call in tankers to pump more water into the system to restore some supply.
An update from UU at 1:05pm on Tuesday September 10 said: “Our team of engineers have completed the repair to the burst main on High Street West.
“Our technicians are in the area refilling the water main to restore water supply. This may take a bit of time, as this will need to be done gradually in order to avoid any further disruption.”
“We’ll be keeping a close eye on this to ensure everything returns to normal. Thank you for your patience and we’re sorry for any inconvenience.”
UU went on to say that residents could have fluctuations in water pressure throughout the day as the system refills to normal levels.
Locals on social media have said that water coming through their taps ‘looks cloudy’ or ‘smells metallic’, while others have complained that it’s muddy or coming out with a green tinge.
