They noticed that bus shelters were in need of a spring clean and decided to do something about it.
Local bus campaigners have recently given bus shelters in Glossop and Hadfield a thorough cleaning. The group are members of ‘Glossopdale Action for Sustainable Travel’. They have also, with permission from High Peak Borough Council, put up information posters, route maps, and QR codes which link to live bus maps.
John Ashton, who co-ordinated the cleaning and QR codes, said: “we’re committed to improving bus travel in Glossopdale in small ways, but also in bigger ways, too. We are helping the council improve the existing shelters, but we are also campaigning for more routes, evening services, and other things that the people in Glossop want from a bus service”.
A recent survey carried out by the group showed that 71% of respondents consider the bus service in Glossopdale to be “bad” or “very bad”, mainly due to the lack of route options e.g. not having a bus to Tameside hospital and Gamesley being cut off in evenings and on Sundays. The group are working through Derbyshire council’s Bus Service Improvement Group to get more resources Glossop’s way for bus travel.
