Campaigners to protest in Glossop over 'anti-democratic' bills

Members of the High Peak Stand Up to Racism and Green New Deal groups will be joined by other local campaigners this Saturday (15 January) in a protest on High Street West in Glossop at 11am.

Linda Walker, Secretary of High Peak Stand Up to Racism, said: "While media attention is focused on Downing Street parties and who paid for the wallpaper, two extremely anti-democratic bills are travelling through Parliament with little attention being paid to them.

"The Policing Bill has recently had many amendments added by the government, making it even more draconian. And the Nationality and Borders Bill would deem most of those fleeing to the UK 'illegal'.

"Both bills have been strongly condemned by lawyers and human rights experts."

The protest is part of a National Day of Action and will be followed by a demonstration in central Manchester.
