Celebrating nature

Twenty years of school visits to Longdendale Environment Centre were celebrated to mark the two decades of inspiring children in nature.

There were plenty of families at Tintwistle’s Bottoms Reservoir to sample what 60,000 young visitors have enjoyed since 1969.

The centre is run by the Peak District National Park Authority in partnership with United Utilities.

There were plenty of park ranger-led activities to make it an interesting and enjoyable time.

Outdoor events included bug hunting, den building, camp fires, treasure trails and willow weaving.

Inside the centre, families could see displays including artwork by local schools and historical artefacts connected to Longdendale Valley and its reservoirs.

United Utilities water catchment officer Iain Leach said: “We hope the event will be a chance to celebrate all the centre has achieved so far and more people will come to enjoy Longdendale Environment Centre and the Peak District National Park in future.”
