Employees at Cemex in Dove Holes are taking part in a five-day cycling challenge that will see them ride between the company’s offices in Stockton-on-Tees to Southampton.
The distance between the two places is 250 miles as the crow flies, but the route by road will see the team cover 407 miles in total.
They will visit several different Cemex sites as they zigzag across the county, including kicking off their third day in the saddle at the Dove Holes quarry this morning, where they were waved off by High Peak MP, Jon Pearce.
Day One saw the group travel 89 miles from Teesside to Leeds, while they cycled from there to Dove Holes on Day Two.
Today’s route will take the team from Dove Holes to the Cemex HQ in Coventry, including tackling the gruelling Winnats Pass outside Castleton.
Day Four will see them plough further south, taking in the sights of Rugby and High Wycombe, before a final push to Southampton on Day Five.
The sponsored ride aims to raise money for Sense, a charity that assists people who are deafblind and have complex disabilities.
“Cemex are committed to creating a collaborative workplace, which empowers everyone to achieve their full potential,” said the company’s Supply Chain Director, Dave Hart. “We want to ensure that we foster an environment which is truly inclusive, where everyone feels a sense of belonging.
“Our ambitions in this area directly align with the incredible work that Sense carry out on a daily basis, and we want to use this event to really shine a spotlight on the work that they do in supporting people with complex disabilities to reach their full potential.”
