Firefighters from Chapel-en-le-Frith are gearing up for a unique challenge next month to raise money for Children with Cancer UK.
On October 5, the team will walk 95 kilometres from Glossop to Swadlincote – which have the most northerly and southerly fire stations in Derbyshire – while wearing full kit and breathing apparatus.
“We met this very special little girl called Sierra on a fire call a few months ago by chance,” said crew manager Chris Prodromis. “Hearing her story was heartbreaking, but you would never know what she’s been through.
“She was the happiest, most joyful little mermaid that lit up everything around her.
“We are raising money to help all children with cancer, and hopefully help the next little girl or boy through their hard journey.”
Chapel firefighters are no strangers to tough fundraising challenges. Last year, Chris and his colleague Dan Jackson raised thousands of pounds for The Christie by running the Manchester half marathon while fully kitted out and dragging a 50kg dummy behind them.
The latest challenge has its own Just Giving page where you can donate.
