Charity helps thousands with employment advice

A local charity has received more than 3,000 requests for help with employment issues since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. 

Citizens Advice Derbyshire Districts say many of the enquiries it has received have been from agency workers and those on zero-hour contracts, with evidence suggesting this group of workers are more likely to have their employment rights breached compared to the rest of the working population. 

In its latest report, the charity said of the 3,237 employment issues it dealt with up until the end of January, the top five were pay and entitlement (509), redundancy (431), dismissal (418), the furlough scheme (344), and Terms and Conditions of employment (239). 

Citizens Advice Derbyshire Districts is a local charity that provides free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to people across the High Peak and other parts of the county. 

It gives advice on a range of issues such as housing [renting and home ownership], debts, benefits, unemployment and dealing with redundancy, family and relationships, healthcare issues, and consumer problems.

The charity - which has a Glossop office inside Bradbury Community House on Market Street - is encouraging people to seek advice early by calling 0300 456 8390.

Lines are open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday, and calls to the number are charged at the same rate as 01 and 02 numbers.
