The closure of a main road between Hadfield and Glossop has been extended until Wednesday 1 March.
Park Road in Hadfield has been closed since 9 January and was due to reopen on 10 February.
It's to allow repairs to the railway bridge and the diversion of a HV cable.
Padfield borough councillor Ollie Cross has been informed that the closure extension is due to Electricity North West having workforce illness and therefore not carrying out the cable diversion as planned.
He added that police are also aware amid reports that some motorists have been driving "irresponsibly" along Platt Street, Padfield Main Road and Temple Street in Padfield as a diversion.
"I'd strongly urge motorists to drive carefully and respect speed limits and local residents alike," Cllr Cross said.
Park Road is closed between the junction with Marlow Street and junction with Bankswood Road.
The alternative route is Park Road, Hadfield Road, Church Street, Newshaw Lane, Shaw Lane, Brookfield, Dinting Vale, High Street West, Norfolk Street, Woodhead Road, Cemetery Road and vice versa.
