County council's message after increase in recycling centre visitors

People are being reminded about the use of recycling centres, as Derbyshire County Council say it's started to see an increase in visitors.

The High Peak has two household waste recycling centres - on Melandra Road in Glossop (pictured) and at Waterswallows in the Fairfield area of Buxton - which are open every day from 8.30am to 6pm.

Queues at the Glossop centre were witnessed backing on to the A57 on Brookfield last weekend as a result of an influx of visitors.

The county council has re-affirmed its message outlining the circumstances for which the centres should be used, amid the current national lockdown restrictions still in force.

The authority say people should remember the following:

• Government guidance still in place says ‘you must not leave, or be outside of your home except where necessary’.

• Social distancing measures are still in place at the centres sites and people may have to queue, but should avoid doing so on main roads.

• People should sort their waste in to different types before arriving, should they need to visit.

• Avoid busy periods if possible such as weekends and between 10am - 4pm.

• Only household waste from Derbyshire residents is accepted - and no commercial waste.

• People should use their kerbside recycling service at home as much as possible.
