The festive season is well and truly under way in Glossop after the Christmas Light Switch On was held on Saturday.
Large crowds braved the wintry weather to see double gold medal winning Paralympian Ben Watson and High Peak Mayor and Mayoress Councillor Paul Hardy and his wife Mary turning on the colourful lights.
Organiser Jane Fletcher said: “It was amazing how many people came out to support the event considering the freezing temperatures and the storm the night before.
“There is a fantastic community spirit in Glossop that really helped to give the event a great atmosphere on the night, thank you to everyone there was a real buzz on the night and a lot of smiling faces which makes all the hard work organising it worthwhile.”
The event included performances from the Centre Stage Dance Academy, fairground rides, late night shopping and a laser show as well as a visit from Santa and his sleigh.
The weather did cause a few issues as not all the stalls were able to attend and the stage was stuck in the snow which meant that the bands couldn’t perform.
Jane said: “Megan from Centre Stage came to the rescue with the PA for the switch on and entertainment for the crowds.”
Plans are already being made for next year’s event.
“Fingers crossed for better weather,” said Jane.
