A demonstration took place in Norfolk Square on Saturday, with demonstrators expressing their distress at the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Members of High Peak Stand Up to Racism and Glossop Peace Group are calling for an end to the killing of Palestinian civilians. They gave out a leaflet detailing the numbers of deaths, injuries, the numbers of children killed or orphaned and the numbers of houses flattened.
The leaflet also described the plight of individual children: 12 year old Douha who lost her leg and her parents and siblings when her home was bombed, and then she died when the hospital was attacked, 16 month old Melissa whose whole extended family were killed, and she was paralysed when rescuers pulled her from the rubble; and six year old Hind. She was in a car which was shelled and her parents were killed, her teenage sister called the Red Crescent and then she was shot, so Hind was left alone with her dead family around her, pleading to be rescued for many hours. The Israeli forces would not give permission and by the time they reached the car Hind was dead too.
The next Vigil for Gaza will take place in Norfolk Square on Saturday morning at 10am.
