Dinting homes decision delayed

The greenfield site off Dinting Road, where the housing development is planned.

A decision on plans for 65 new homes to be built on Dinting Road in Glossop has been delayed after the need for a site visit was approved.

Members of High Peak's Development Control Committee were due to look at an outline application for the site, which was recommended for approval, at their meeting on Monday (7 November).

However, Councillor Charlotte Farrell, who represents the Hope Valley, said: “I don’t feel comfortable approving this outline planning without having seen the site. It is not anywhere I am really familiar with.”

The decision to defer was tied, with Committee Chair Councillor Bob Mckeown having the casting vote in favour of deferring.

The site is included in the Local Plan for housing and, of the proposed homes, 30 per cent would be affordable.

Earlier, the meeting had heard from an agent on behalf of the applicant who explained all the details, apart from access, would be covered by a reserve matters application. She said there was a commitment to the public right of way on the site.

Objections had been submitted by local residents and a spokeswoman speaking on behalf of many highlighted seven major areas of concern including traffic and road safety, pressure on existing services and flooding.

The application will go back before the committee at a later date.
