Dyslexia course in New Mills

A dyslexia course is on offer in New Mills next month to help people understand the learning disorder better.

The course will take place on Friday 7 February, from 9.30am to 3.30pm at New Mills Adult Education Centre at Spring Bank. 

It is aimed at parents, carers and people in general who have children, loved ones or colleagues with dyslexia and who want a better understanding of the disorder. 

Those who attend the course will learn typical signs of dyslexia and how it impacts on learning and day to day life. 

Dyslexia is often misunderstood and can be hard to detect, especially in young children who have not started school yet, and although it cannot be treated, most schools and working environments are perfectly capable of accommodating for it. 

Typical early signs of dyslexia include difficulty with reading and writing, confusing the order of letters in words, having difficulty remembering and carrying out sequences and directions. Children may sometimes describe letters moving around when trying to read. 

In adults, signs also include difficulty with reading and writing, having difficulty with directions and remembering sequences such as PIN numbers and telephone numbers as well as poor organisational and planning skills.
