A 98-year-old lifelong Glossopdale resident has been forced to move out of the area after the decision was taken to close Oakford Manor Nursing Home. 

As we reported, the Newshaw Lane care home - operated by Rushcliffe Care Group - has closed with residents having to move elsewhere. 

Lesley Krommendijk’s 98-year-old mum Monica had lived at the home for five years before the family had to quickly make other arrangements. 

“Rushcliffe Care, I feel, have been rather callous about this situation and not given much thought to their residents or their families. 

“I did not receive a letter from Rushcliffe Care, I received a phone call from the then Manager at Oakford Manor giving four weeks notice. I had to request a copy of the letter.” 

She added: “Although I was informed Oakford Manor was closing on 19 July, I was under pressure to find somewhere else to go earlier, due partly to them losing some staff before the 19th. 

“My mum has lived in Glossop and Hadfield all her long life apart from a few years after the war, and I wanted her to end her days there. 

“Unfortunately, there's no other Care Homes with nursing for dementia so I have had to take her out of the area,” said Lesley who fears other families will have to move their loved ones out of the area in the future. 

The closure of Oakford Manor Nursing Homes did not stop the owners from sending an invoice for all of July, despite determining it would close no later than 19 July. 

Lesley said: “Since then I have received a bill for a taxi for the return of the carer who accompanied mum in the ambulance. The carer was requested by the Health Social Worker who assured me it would be down to them to pay. To Rushcliffe it seems all this is down to money!” 

She sent the taxi bill back and told them to contact social services and paid the care home the amount due only for the time her mum was there.  

As previously reported, the care home providers Rushcliffe Care Group apologised to those affected and said they took the difficult decision to close was because of low occupancy at Oakford Manor Nursing Home, where they had been working with external partners to improve standards. 

The purpose-built facility was acquired by Rushcliffe Care Group in 2007.
