Ellie cooks up charity cash

Ellie Owen was a force to be reckoned with last Saturday when she was selling homemade cakes and dream catchers – all in a bid to save sea turtles.

The eight-year-old from Hadfield is passionate about fighting sea pollution, and came up with the idea of a bake sale with the proceeds going to WWF.

Ellie, who attends St Charles Primary School, set up a stall outside Screwfix in Glossop running from 10am - noon, receiving help from her parents Andy and Sarah, Grandma Anne and friend Bea Cassells.

Dad Andy explained Ellie’s love for conservation.

“She first became interested after watching animal documentaries and news reports on the TV… it upset her so she wanted to make a positive change,” he said.

“She wants to be a vet when she grows up.

“There was a great turn-out from customers exiting Screwfix, including people who had read Sarah’s post on the Glossop Facebook page and I even had some members of Glossop and District Performance car owners club which I run turn up to support.”

With her homemade bakes and brownies going down a treat, Ellie raised an impressive £220 for WWF – with her parents also agreeing to adopt a sea turtle.
