Fire station plans in Glossop given go-ahead

What the fire station is set to look like.

Glossop is a step closer to getting a new state-of-the-art fire station after councillors unanimously approved the plans.

Members of High Peak Borough Council’s Development Control Committee gave the go-ahead for the redevelopment of the Whitfield Park site at Monday's meeting.

The existing facilities are viewed to be no longer fit for purpose and will be replaced by a new Fire Station that has been designed to meet modern operational requirements.

A new smoke house and tower together with associated outbuildings and external works were also approved.

Councillor David Lomax, moving approval of the application, said: “They do need better facilities there and I welcome these developments.”

The meeting also unanimously approved a second application for changes to the site while the work is carried out.

A temporary structure to be built on site to house the two fire appliances and fire kit.

Permission was also granted for the use of four former Fire Crew houses to provide welfare and administration facilities while the new fire station is being constructed.
