Foodbank calls for extra food supplies

Glossopdale Foodbank is appealing for donations as it continues to see an increase in demand for food parcels.

Continuing difficult financial circumstances are being blamed for the rise, which between April and July, showed the foodbank providing 16,947 meals to 1,454 adults and 735 children.

Co-ordinator Charlotte Mendes-Kelly said: “Unfortunately this increased demand is likely to continue with the start of the winter months.

“Due to the dramatic rise in demand for foodbank support, donations of food and other items are continually needed to make sure that the service can provide enough parcels to meet demand.”

She added: “Donations would be greatly appreciated of tinned foods, dried pasta, rice, cereal, UHT milk, tea bags, biscuits, sugar, toiletries, toilet roll and sanitary items.”

Donated items can be placed in the foodbank’s baskets in Glossop Tesco, Marks and Spencer’s, Simmondley Co-op, Glossop Wholefoods and the NatWest Bank.

Anyone in financial hardship and in need of a food parcel, can collect one at:

  • Glossop Children’s Centre (off Victoria Street, Glossop) open Mondays and Wednesdays between 10am to  noon
  • Hadfield Children’s Centre (off Queen Street, Hadfield) open Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am to noon
  • The Pantry, Winster Mews, Gamesley, (next to the Post Office) open Tuesday to Friday 10am to 4pm.

While anyone in financial hardship and self-isolating can contact Glossopdale Foodbank on 07811 684282, or email delivery.glossopdalefoodbank@gmail.com
