Planning permission has been granted to turn a former takeaway into two shops despite an objection from the owner’s former business partner.
Chih Kang Li claims that Tony Li owes him £44,000 after the former Tung Fong takeaway closed on High Street West in Glossop.
“I have substantial amount of money invested in the business which Mr Tony Li has yet to repay back to me,” CK Li said in his objection letter to High Peak Council (HPBC).
“I have not been contacted on these plans to alter the property. I must object to any submitted plans that I have not had a say in.”
However, the council’s planning department decided that this should have no bearing on the process, which will also see the existing first floor accommodation turned into a self-contained two-bedroom flat.
HPBC Planning Officer, James Stannard, said in his report: “The proposed development will, as a consequence of the removal of an external flue, result in a modest visual enhancement of the site and street scene.
“Whilst it is acknowledged that the absence of off-street parking results in conflict with LP Policy CF6, it has been found that owing to the highly sustainable location of the site with excellent connections to nearby shops, services, facilities and public transport links, and that no objections have been forthcoming from Highways, the lack of parking can be justified on this occasion, and that there are no credible or reasonable grounds for refusal on this basis.”
