Glossop couple to take on marathon in aid of baby loss charity

Glossop resident Steve Brackenridge and his partner Alexandra are on a mission to raise awareness of the effects of baby loss, after their daughter Penny was tragically stillborn last February.

Following their heartbreaking loss, the pair have set up “Penny’s Wings” in her honour, which they hope will help others who are suffering in silence.

In honour of Penny, the pair will be taking part in a ‘Team Marathon’ at CrossFit in Glossop on Saturday February 1.

The event will see 42 teams of four take on 26.2 miles of activity, split evenly across running, cycling, skiing and rowing- with everything bar the running taking part inside CrossFit.

The marathon will be run in waves, with six teams starting the challenge every hour.

All proceeds raised through the event will be donated to ‘Tommy’s’, a charity dedicated to conducting groundbreaking research to make pregnancy safer for everyone.

Over £2,000 has been raised for the charity so far, and donations are still being taken via the JustGiving page.

Ahead of the event, Steve said:

“There are many pains in life, but giving birth to a child you never get to raise has by far been our greatest pain.

“We, like many others, will carry this pain for the rest of our lives.

“Loss is an extremely lonely journey to go through, but we want people to know that they are not alone.

“Please help us honour Penny and save future babies, no one should have to experience this pain.

“We invite anyone to come down on the day to support our participants, buy some cakes, eat some paella, drink some drinks or to just watch and cheer.”
