Glossop Gets Ready to Crown its Champions!

On Thursday March 27, Glossop will stage its first ever Glossopdale Community Champions Awards.

The event will take place at Glossopdale School and Sixth Form, with over 280 people in attendance watching 14 local people be crowned as our Community Heroes.

Over 300 nominations were received across the 12 categories, making it a tough job for the four judges: Jackie Bell MBE, Deputy Lieutenant for Derbyshire, Clare Batchelor, Group Development Worker for High Peak CVS, Melissa Speed, Award Winning Artist and Mark Allen, Centre Manager at New Mills Volunteer Centre.

The awards up for grabs include: Individual of the Year, Youth Champion and Outstanding Volunteer, and as well as an overall winner each category will have a ‘Highly Commended’ runner up. Emma Marsh, CEO of the Not Really Here Media Group, will be presenting the Mental Health Champion award.

The feel-good event is being hosted by community wellbeing hub, The Bureau. Chief Officer Natalie Rhodes told us “We’re really excited to recognise the amazing volunteers who make such a difference in our community. The Glossopdale Community Champions Awards, developed and designed in partnership with Hummingbird Hubs, is our way of highlighting the dedication and generosity of those who go above and beyond to help others. Their efforts truly make our community stronger, and we’re proud to honour them.”

The headline sponsors of the event are, the Centre Stage Academy of Dance, CS Entertainment, Ryder & Dutton and Kwik Fit. With food and a bar provided by local restaurant Cask & Kitchen.

Tickets for the event sold out within one week, but to ensure that no one misses out, the ceremony will also be live streamed via the Glossopdale Community Champions Facebook page.

Good luck to all those shortlisted!
