Glossop man sentenced under new 'upskirting' law

Gary Braidwood, 39, took photographs up a shoppers skirt and followed her while recording video around Tesco last year.

The incident occurred at the superstore near Wren's Nest in Glossop on the 5th September last year, but Braidwood, who is unemployed, was not arrested until October 1st.

He appeared at Stockport Magistrates Court today (31 July 2019) having pleaded guilty to an act of outraging public decency and carrying out the upskirting offence.

The offence of upskirting became a criminal offence on April 12 this year, and is punishable by up to two years in prison.

Braidwood was handed a 36-month community order and will have to complete an accredited sex offenders program, 30 rehabilitation activity requirement days as well as 150 days of unpaid work.  He was also ordered to pay £200 compensation to the victim.
