Within the first week of January, Glossop Mountain Rescue Team have been called out to six different emergencies across Derbyshire.
On the first day of the New Year, Glossop and surrounding areas were hit with severe flooding. Roads were shut and houses were evacuated due to the increasing water levels. The Mountain Rescue Team’s water team were called out and assisted with evacuating residents out of apartments in Portwood, Stockport.
On the 3rd January, the team was deployed for an injured hiker on Bleaklow, the person had an ankle injury and 24 members were involved in the deployment.
The 5th January saw the team receive a callout for two missing teenagers in the Snake Pass area however whilst they were planning a response, the police located them and the team didn’t need to deploy.
On the same day, they assisted North West Ambulance twice in one night, helping them reach remote patients.
6th January, the water team was deployed to search for a missing person in the New Mills area.
The 7th January, the team were joined by the Edale Mountain Rescue Team and the Kinder Mountain Rescue Team to a rescue mission in Bleaklow.
After searching the area and having no luck, the casualty was eventually found in the Hern Stones area of Bleaklow where snow was up to 3ft deep. He was quickly assessed on the scene and provided with blankets due to hypothermia.
