Glossop North End Host Stamford AFC

Glossop North End kick-off their season this Saturday as they take on Stamford AFC in Northern Premier League - South East Division.

Glossop North End kick-off their season this Saturday as they take on Stamford AFC in Northern Premier League - South East Division. It is also their first game in the division as a league restructure placed Glossop in a separate division to local rivals Mossley and Droylsden who all shared a big gate when they played each other.

The new division see’s Glossop having to travel much further than they have been previously used to. They now face sides such as Ilkeston and Lincoln United. This will surely mean that travel costs will have to go up for The Hillmen, which will be an unwelcome addition for the club.

Glossop have had a patchy pre-season schedule after winning just two out of their seven games. However, some of those games were against opposition much higher up the footballing pyramid and no doubt the aim of the fixtures was for match fitness rather than the result.

It was an indifferent campaign for Glossop last season as they finished 17thafter a patchy run of form saw them concede 74 goals whilst scoring just 41 which was the third-lowest in the league.

The Hillmen will be hoping for a quick start this season as they host Stamford FC for the first time in a league meeting. Glossop will have 17-year-old new signing Kyle Wych available after he signed on loan from Oldham Athletic and also Stockport County striker Szymon Czubik who also signed on a month loan deal.

Their opponents Stamford had a comfortable season last time out as they finished 11thin the league formerly known as the East Divison. They will be out to improve on last seasons form and will represent a tough first game for Glossop.

Speaking ahead of the game Glossop joint managers Pete Band and Lloyd Morrison said "we have a decent squad, keeping in mind that at the beginning of June we had no retained players due to the placement in the South East Division, and we know what we have in mind when it comes to team set up which hopefully will make us competitive on our own turf and we’ll make it as difficult as we can for any teams coming here this season starting with Stamford on Saturday.”
