Glossop rapist jailed after attacking a woman while she slept

Thirty-three-year-old Dane Oldham of Glossop was caged for six years with a minimum term of four years when he was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court on Monday.

Judge Timothy Smith KC said Oldham has turned his victim’s life “upside down”, leaving her “fearful of living in Glossop” for the past six years and still suffering from flashbacks, nightmares and cold sweats.

She has also received counselling for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and has been on medication for anxiety and depression following the attack.

The court heard how on the evening of Saturday, June 2, 2018, Oldham, who was 27 at the time, was in a nightclub in Glossop where he met the victim.

The victim then felt unwell and went back to Oldham's property where the incident happened.

Soon after arriving at the property, the victim told the police she remembered falling asleep but then waking up naked with Oldham on top of her. She shouted "get off me" and rang a friend to order her a taxi, meeting her pal at a Glossop pub.

The friend recalled the victim to be “hysterical to the point where she couldn’t speak”. Oldham pleaded guilty to the offence and the court were told of his previous convictions for violence and arson.

The court also heard Oldham had a 'difficult' upbringing after he was taken into care at a young age.

Oldham’s defence barrister told the court that Oldham is “prepared to accept help, he feels that drugs and alcohol are behind him now and he has turned his life around since the incident.”
