Hadfield St Andrew’s deliver fixture booklets to 5,000 local homes ahead of new season

Members of Hadfield St Andrew’s Cricket Club have been out in force in recent weeks delivering thousands of the Club’s 2024 Fixture Booklets to households in Hadfield, Padfield and across the Glossop area.

The initiative is part of the Club’s drive to reach out even further to the wider community following a memorable centenary year. The Club, entering its fifth year as a member of the Greater Manchester Cricket League, are working [hard / tirelessly / round the clock] to have their Newshaw Lane home ready for the first game of the season. This was meant to be April 20th but record-breaking winter rainfall has led to the season being delayed by two weeks.

The bank holiday weekend will therefore see Thornham (Saturday 4th) and Austerlands (Sunday 5th) visit Newshaw Lane for the first cricket of the season.

The first social of the year – the Annual Hadfield Darts Championship – has been moved back to June 15th. Members and non-members alike are invited to participate.

The Club plays regularly host to Grillfest, Slimming World, and its new ‘Warm Space’ initiative, as well as other community groups and functions. Any individual or group or organisation is invited to get in touch with the Club to discuss how they can be accommodated.

Cameron Ball, Club Captain, commented: “Despite the rain doing its best to put a dampener on things, we can’t wait to get out onto the pitch again."

“We have two senior teams, a social team, and two junior teams (U9 & U11) so there’s plenty to look forward to.

“It was a disappointing year / season in 2023, but we have kept our core playing group together and have recently appointed a new 2nd XI captain and vice-captain. The Social T20 team also have more T20 matches this year.

“We also can’t wait to welcome Cameron Ingham to the Club who joins the 1st XI from New Zealand and will be only our second ever overseas player. We hope that he can help us bounce back and secure us a second promotion in three years”.

Club President, Chris Tranter, added: “Our Centenary year was memorable in so many ways, not least our welcoming of an MCC XI and our 1920s-themed ball. As a Club, we hope is that 2024 will deliver much of the same both on and off the pitch.

“So many people at the club are working tirelessly to get us ready for 4th May, I must also thank our many sponsors – especially Bodytech, Specsavers and APH Financial – who are enabling the Club to invest in its junior playing facilities as well as helping improve the clubhouse.

“We hope to see even more people come through our gates in 2024. We want to be a community club, not just a cricket club. We are hosting Grillfest again, and several local clubs and charities utilise our clubhouse space. With over 30 home matches being played on Newshaw Lane – as well as the Euros and Olympics on – it would be great to see people pay us a visit.

“We have been out delivering our fixture booklets to over 5,000 local homes. We hope that you received yours, but if you didn’t then please get in touch and we will be happy to send you one”
