Heart start machine in Glossop is on the move

The heart start machine on the wall of Glossop station has been removed because its temporary planning permit has expired.

But the good news is that it is locked away in a station store ready for a new home, possibly in Glossop town centre.

The big and bright defibrillator was first spotted outside the station entrance just before Christmas and its appearance was a bit of a mystery.

Friends of Glossop Station member Eric Pass said at the time: “All we know is that it’s tripped the lights on our Christmas tree inside the station!

“I have asked the station staff and no one knows who put it there.”

It eventually transpired that rail giants Northern had provided the box, without getting planning permission.

Fast forward three months and friends’ group chairman Neil Williams has come up with the answers.

He said: “Northern then applied (to High Peak Borough Council) for planning permission and were given temporary permission for two months because it (the station) is in a conservation  area.

“The two months were up at the end of February. The council has been very good and say they will help Northern find a new location.”

Where that will be is unclear, but Neil reckons the perfect place could be one of the two big red telephone boxes standing side by side on Norfolk Square.

With most people having mobile phones, he reckons that one box would be more than enough. The other one could be disconnected and the defibrillator installed inside.
